Hello there, let me introduce myself...
Just like on the first day of school.
Hi. My name is Alexis, I'm 22 (although I still say I'm still 21 out of vanity) years-old, I'm an Accountant, proud UABC alumni. I am also currently studying the Bachelor's of Science in Global Management at San Diego Global Knowledge University. I am currently a Level 1 Staff Accountant in the Tax & Global Compliance line of service at EY México (Mancera, S. C.) and on Saturdays I am a Dog groomer and Shift manager at Happy Dog Spaw in Bonita, CA. Now, I'll give you my 16-digit debit card number and security code, because we're all friends here *wink, wink*
Well, no, I'm not going to give you my bank details, then the Tax Administration Service is gonna come looking for me because I'm spending more than what I earn, but that's a topic for another post, and in another section.
I will tell you a little more about myself: I come from a very exotic family. My mother is a "Whitexican", a qualified interior decorator and former businesswoman in her good old days, and my father is Guamanian (from Guam, a small island in the middle of the Pacific, used by the United States as a military base), a veteran of the United States Army. Yes, I am an American citizen, I am 100% bilingual.I am a citizen of the world, the whole world is my flag...(I'm also a living jukebox, but enough songs for now)
Further up the family tree are my dear grandparents, both deceased. My grandmother, a distinguished lady of Morelos (a small state in central Mexico) society, daughter of the first dentist in the city of Cuernavaca, Dr. Daniel Díaz de la Vega y Gómez-Monroy and, on the other hand, my grandfather, a Public Accountant by profession and scholar of history in his spare time, he was the nephew of President Pascual Ortiz Rubio.
My illustrious pedigree aside, who am I and why should you take note of me? To begin with, we've already discussed my profession. I am also an Anglophile at heart, an amateur royal historian (King Charles is my personal friend and I have been to all of his children's birthdays, no joke...), wannabe singer, tweetstar and "teacher's pet" during my time in school. Yes, I am that person who would ask the professor to talk slower so I could take multi-colored notes.
As I previously mentioned, I was "teacher's pet", and my grades back it up. My GPA in school was 97.05 out of 100.
Now, let's move on to the issue that afflicts us. Alexis, why start an accounting blog? There are many accounting blogs. The answer is simple, I just want to share with you, dear readers, my passion for my career, but I also want to inform the general public about the different roles that accountants play (because, let's face it, many of us, including me before starting degree, we thought that being an accountant involved adding and subtracting and counting money).
Also, I want to educate people who want to learn about the discipline, whether it is all the students who come after me along the way or entrepreneurs and professionals who want to understand how the issues of the accounting profession impact their companies or businesses.
Now, I also want to expose the not-so-glamorous side of practicing accounting. You see me all happy in my photos on Instagram, showing off my achievements, but behind all that there are hours and hours of effort, frustration, anger, even tears. All that work was worth it when I went to the podium to take my Professional Examination Certificate from the Faculty Director, officially culminating my professional preparation.
With that inspiring scene, I conclude my presentation. I hope to have the support of all of you who are reading me and I ask you to please share my articles, I will be uploading a lot of content, very relevant and very interesting. Thanks to everyone who has written to me on social networks supporting this project. Love you guys so much!!
-XOXO, Lady Whistledown
